"Cell death is an important process not only during development, but throughout our entire life. When it doesn't work as it's supposed to, it usually results in severe disease. For example, too much cell death is linked to pro-inflammatory diseases, whereas too little cell death is associated with cancer. I conduct fundamental research into how cell death pathways are regulated at a molecular level so that we can eventually try to design drugs that either prevent infection or cure disease."
