Research Informatics Training

Research Associate, Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

I have more than 10 years experience in application of high-resolution mass-spectrometry to study natural complex mixtures such as natural organic matter, humic substances, metabolites and petroleum. During my scientific career I have introduced various methods to uncover environmental functions of organic matter from natural sources. I am an organic chemist by training and my first goal was to aid structural information to conventional formula-based mass spectrometry analysis. This activity has resulted in various approaches, insights about optical properties of natural organic matter and new constrained aromaticity index useful for biogeochemical research. Have established a research team I was able to kick-off an additional activity focused on data science and chemoinformatics. Examples of the results are a benchmark classification database for natural organic matter and, generally, several data treatment stategies for both biogeochemistry and pharmacology.
