Introduction

This page explains what personal information we gather when you visit this web site and when you book or attend a training course run by bioinformatics training.

Who will process my personal information?

The information published here applies to the use of your personal information (also known as 'personal data') by the University of Cambridge through the viewing or use of this site.

General personal information collected on our websites

Specific personal information collected on this website

This site asks you to provide information about yourself in the course booking form for external participants.

We gather this information so that we can process bookings for attendees without University of Cambridge credentials.

We use this personal data to fulfil requests for booking onto courses for the person to whom the information applies.

Your data will be used to create an attendance sign-in form available at the course venue during the course.

Your data may be shared with course trainers and training material developers so that they can address your specific requirements, during a course you are booked to attend.

If you are a member of an institution which collaborates with us to pay centrally (a list of such institutions is available at https://training.csx.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics/info/charging) we will share your information with an administrator at your institution to authorize your booking. In the case that you do not intend for your institution to pay for your booking please make this clear in your booking form submission.

We will use your information to send emails related specifically to the booking you have requested. No other emails will be sent without receiving additional consent from you.

Your data will be shared with and stored in the University Training Booking Service (https://www.training.cam.ac.uk), alongside attendance information for successful course bookings. The UTBS has its own privacy policy, which is accessible at https://www.training.cam.ac.uk/info/privacy .

Personal Information collected in relation to successful course booking and attendance

Information gathered at course registration:

Upon successfully booking a place on a course and during your attendance, we may ask you to provide further personal information. We will collect information using course surveys conducted online and at the course venue using paper sign-in sheets and the computer workstations.

Your attendance on a course is not dependant on any information collected after a successful booking except for signing in on the attendance sheet. You may choose not to provide any other piece of personal information without penalty.

We use this data to improve the delivery and development of courses, to provide feedback to course trainers and to participate in international quality and impact analysis with other training institutions.

Your data may be shared with course trainers and training material developers so that they can address your specific requirements, during a course you are booked to attend.

Information gathered in post-course survey:

Data you provide in post-course surveys is anonymized before being shared with any third party. We use this data to improve the delivery and development of courses, to provide feedback to course trainers and to participate in international quality and impact analysis with other training institutions. We share this anonymized data with the following groups:

  • Course trainers and course material developers. In addition to anonymization all personal information is removed before sharing with this group. We share only the information provided in sections of the survey requesting feedback on course content.
  • The ELIXIR (Pan European Bioinformatics Network https://www.elixir-europe.org/) Training Quality and Impact Subtask, of which the University of Cambridge is a member. ELIXIR will use the anonymised data in an effort to assess the quality and impact of ELIXIR-badged training events across the network.

Consent:

If you have given us, consent to store and use your contact details, or for any other information where we have asked for consent, you may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us at bioinfotraining@bio.cam.ac.uk.

How we store your data and how to contact us to change it

We use third-party services to store and collect your information including but not limited to Surveymonkey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/mp/gdpr/) and Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/en_GB/security/GDPR).

Information stored on these services may be physically located outside of the UK and the EEA. We will only store your information using services that comply with the restrictions and conditions set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Authorized access to data stored on these services will only be given to Bioinformatics training staff.

Your data will be held indefinitely to contribute to personal development portfolios in the future. Data relating to personal requirements is held indefinitely for convenience of the participant when making future bookings. Data relating to course feedback will also be stored indefinitely in order to perform continuous long-term assessment of our training. Personal data can be requested, edited or deleted at any time by contacting bioinfotraining@bio.cam.ac.uk.

Cookies
