Research Informatics Training

 

Kate Mellor is a senior staff scientist in the Pathogens and Microbes programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and a member of the Global Pneumococcal Sequencing project core team. Her work focuses upon the genomics of Streptococcus pneumoniae, with a particular interest in using longitudinal data to understand the dynamics of acquisition and carriage.

Kate has a background in clinical veterinary medicine, veterinary epidemiology and One Health. Kate is interested in antimicrobial resistance and the role of mobile genetic elements play in transmission and maintenance of antimicrobial resistance genes. Her PhD investigated the stability and transmission of plasmids amongst Salmonella Typhimurium isolated from animals in England and Wales over a 25-year period in England and Wales.
